WOW Festival comes to Keighley

Women of the World event comes to Keighley

On Sunday 3rd March, an international festival is coming to Keighley. The Women of the World or WOW project travels around the globe with the aim of inspiring young women and girls.

This time they have chosen to bring the big WOW bus to town and will park up near Subway, outside the Airedale Shopping Centre.

The WOW bus will be parked alongside local arts charity, Keighley Creative, from where the team will be running various workshops and hosting performances to get visitors inspired and interested in the arts and empower them fulfil their potential.

The WOW bus – this is a bright, colourful and convertible created by and for young female and non-binary people. It is a piece of art in itself and includes a library, a recording studio and a range of fun, interactive activities that are designed to build resilience, wellbeing and good mental health.

SheSpins DJ Workshops – Do you have a passion for music? Would you like to learn how to DJ. Then why not sign up for a SheSpins DJ workshop. These will be running from the Stockroom performance space within Keighley Creative. Places on these workshops are free but limited so booking via Eventbrite is required. Sessions last 90 minute and are for young people aged 12 to 18.

Drawing Workshop with female tattoo artist, Geo Dench – We are putting on a drop-in workshop with Geo exploring identity and fierce femininity that inspire tattoo designs. The workshops will be supported by the mental health charity, SCUFF.

Henna – There will be a team from the Eden Community Association offering free henna. You may remember them from our International Women’s Day event in 2023.

Hand massages – Highfield Community Centre’s Shaida will be giving out free hand massages to attendees with the aim of providing a mindful and relaxing activity.

WIRED with the Yorkshire Sound Women’s Network – If you are interested potentially in a career in sound, as a record producer or sound engineer, then come and meet an audio professional and get hands-on with music technology.

Live music performances – Local female rock musicians, Sorelle, will be in the Stockroom performing empowering songs. Think Demi Lovato, Stevie Nicks, Katy Perry and Tina Turner!

Storytelling from Irene Lofthouse – Actor and historian, Irene, will be telling tales about infamous and inspiring Keighley lasses.

Workshops with Leanne from The Kindred Bizarre – For those interested in alternative arts, then local business owner, Leanne Wright, will be running drop-in sessions where people can pop into weave bundles of magic!

The WOW event is about upskilling, learning from and celebrating young women, girls and non-binary people and everyone is welcome. It will be running from in and outside Keighley Creative at 3-7 Cooke Street (the old Argos building) outside the Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley, from 11am till 4pm on Sunday 3rd March 2024.
