Keighley Creative is home to the Stockroom, an intimate performance space and cinema, which is now available to hire.
In 2023, Keighley Creative and The Unit were approached by the Leeds International Film Festival team as they were looking for a small cinema space in the Bradford district in which to screen a few films for that year’s event. The team put their heads together and the idea of a secret cinema was born.
Led by Aimee Grundell and Gemma Hobbs, a plan was made to convert an unused storage space within Keighley Creative’s premises, which had formerly been the stockroom for Argos. They wanted to create a secret, cosy performance space that could be used as a cinema for the LIFF but then could be used in future for other types of performances; this meant that the space needed to be flexible and able to accommodate different formats.
Their plan came together and at the Leeds International Film Festival in November 2023, the Stockroom screened four films and has since gone on to be used as a cinema for other occasions such as International Women’s Day. It has also been used for theatre performances such as Kerry Wright’s KAILEY and has hosted other events such as Bradford Producing Hub’s Visual Arts Social.
The Stockroom offers the following:
- Unique, stylish and intimate performance and event space
- Optional screen and projector to allow the space to be used as a cinema
- Up to 32 seats made up of comfortable armchairs and sofas
- “Tuck shop” area that is multi-use e.g. sound desk, bar, etc.
- Excellent WiFi signal
- Wheelchair accessible with inclusive toilet
- Visual, sound and lighting equipment available to borrow
- Electric heaters
- Plenty of sockets
The Stockroom can be used for the following events:
- Film screenings
- Small theatre performances
- Spoken word and poetry
- Live music
- Comedy
- Seminars and presentations
- Private events
