Tuesday Group!

Tuesday Group is an inclusive dementia-friendly art and story group that meets online fortnightly. Our aim is to get together, meet new people and feel connected whilst trying out new things.

The sessions are run by two very experienced artists, so you’ll be in safe hands! If you are living with dementia, or if someone you know, or care for, is living with dementia (or a long term neurological condition such as Parkinson’s Disease) and you would like to give this a go, please contact us.

This group is for carers too as it’s a chance to unwind and enjoy yourself. The next session is tomorrow, Tuesday 26th Jan. Contact us on 07983 560273 or email gemma@keighleycreative.org if you would like to join in or want more information.

What does culture mean to you?

What does culture mean to you? In the second half of last year, we held zoom sessions with lots of different people who live and work in Keighley to find out just that. These conversations were part of Bradford Council’s 10-year ‘Culture is Our Plan’ project. The aim of which is to re-imagine the whole of Bradford district as a cultural space – our homes, our mills, hills, streets, markets, moors and parks. To recognise that our cultural life is everywhere and in everyone and is vital to our wellbeing, education and sense of pride in where we live.

Our community zoom sessions focused on the hopes of the people of Keighley with the aim of us being able to meet some of these needs over the coming years. One of our studio holders, Naseem Darbey, then translated these conversations into vibrant illustrations. Naseem says: “Zoom is odd to me- we are all together yet so far apart. The sessions often started quiet, but then burst into colour and strong, urgent ideas- I have tried to capture this experience.”

One of the major themes of all our discussions was how the word ‘Culture’ means different things to different people. But what really shone through was how much people want to celebrate this diversity and GET INVOLVED! We’ll be sharing a lot more of these conversations in the coming weeks. And we’d especially like to keep them going – so come on, what does Culture mean to you?

New Studios… Coming Soon!

It has been a while (and sorry if you have enquired about a studio with us in the last few months- we decided not to take on anyone new until we can open up more fully post Lockdown 1… Lockdown 2… you guessed it- Lockdown 3!) but we are now on with building some more studios! Yippee!

As soon as we can say more we will, but in the meantime, if you are interested in having a studio with us, you can apply here. We want to get a really diverse studio offer going, so if you are working creatively with new technologies, or ancient crafts, all are welcome. We are particularly interested to hear from people with Keighley Postcodes, from working class and poor backgrounds. This could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!
